The Project

Playing for Success starts where school finishes. Our centres offer children out-of-school environments that inspire them, encourage their development and promote a sense of fun. Confidence and self-esteem help to encourage achievement in many areas of a pupil’s life and we offer activities that they may never have tried before. Each centre also aims to raise standards in numeracy, literacy and ICT, whilst promoting all areas of the Every Child Matters Agenda by creating engaging and inspiring programmes that are both thoughtfully structured but flexible enough to meet the changing needs of pupils. This innovative project is built on visionary partnerships between Nottingham City Council, local sports clubs and businesses.

Our three centres are located at Nottingham Forest Football Club, the National Ice Centre and Nottingham Tennis Centre. Each centre is managed by a fully qualified and experienced teacher who also relies on volunteers from partner clubs, Nottingham and Trent Universities and the local business community to help deliver projects and support pupils in their learning.

All centres are equipped with the latest state of the art ICT facilities including interactive whiteboards, internet access, video editing facilities, and printers and network systems that allow for either group or individual work. Whilst each centre works to the same aims and principles each has its own unique environment reflecting the immediate sporting surroundings.

During the last 12 months we have also successfully delivered projects at Nottingham Castle and The NCCL Galleries of Justice under the banner of Performing for Success.

Purpose

The purpose of Nottingham PfS is to raise standards in literacy, numeracy and ICT by building pupil confidence and self esteem.
