The Study Centre celebrated the end of the Autumn term in style just before the Christmas break. Parents, carers, sponsors and teachers enjoyed the celebration led by the pupils. A representative from each of the four schools spoke with confidence about their time at the study centre.

 Schools this term were:-

 Nottingham Emmanuel School,  Seely Juniors, Big Wood School, and Melbury Juniors.

Pupils took turns to showcase some of their successes including movie making, Powerpoint Presentations, Poetry and Dance and Player Profiles. Academy Players presented certificates while Garath McCleary and Karlton Watson gave out vouchers for the Crystal Palace game and Goody bags to all the pupils.

 The attendance of Billy Davies, Manager of Nottingham Forest, was a real boost for everyone who had turned out on such a cold ,snowy evening. He praised the pupils for their success and achievements and signed a few autographs!

 Thanks were given, by Centre teacher, Jane Francis, to the First Year Academy scholars for their continued support, and to the Experian volunteers. Thanks also went to the P.R. dept.  for their continued support.

Graduation: December 2010 

We were lucky enough to hold this term’s graduation once again at the Senate Chambers at the University of Nottingham. Pupils from Ambleside Primary, Middleton Primary, Berridge Junior School and Hempshill Hall Primary attended along with parents, carers, family and staff from their schools.

The evening was very well attended and every one enjoyed celebrating the achievements of the children.

The Study Centre was once again involved in the “One Game , One Community “ week of action. To help raise awareness of the campaign all pupils participated in a variety of activities for the week. They listened to poems, watched videos of Premiership players talking about racism, designed posters and t shirts around the theme to show Racism the Red Card. Academy Players expressed their views on racism with a Question and Answer session.

Terrell said “It was brilliant-everyone was standing up and clapping us. I felt really proud!”

On arrival we were met by Jane Francis, our guide for the day.

The day gave us a great insight into what it was like to be a young player at the Academy. We learnt all about life in the “digs” which is home to the academy players and met Aristote (Harry), Sebastian (Seb) and Jack. They told us about how they were scouted, their diet, the rules they have to follow and the fines they get if they don’t!!!!

On the tour of the ground we found out that one Top Valley student – Jack had a talent as a Billy Davies impersonator. Jack did a really convincing “Billy” impersonation shouting instructions from the touch line to some very frightened imaginary players!

We also got to meet Lewis McGugan and Luke Chambers who were about to leave for the Watford match. After autographs we wished them good luck!  We all thought it was a brilliant experience and learnt so much about the City Ground and the club!!!!

Karlton Watson , Academy Player of last season, spoke about the latest book he is reading “My Story” by Cyrille Regis. Karlton explained that he was the first black icon of English football and that it was an inspirational tale of triumph over adversity.

Neil Byrne, a reserve team player, is also reading an autobiography “The Autobiography” by Roy Keane. Neil also comes from Ireland and has found similarities with his own background.

Karlton and Neil were a credit to the club and the school would like to thank them for giving up their time and are looking forward to becoming involved with other similar projects.

My time at Ace Base has been phenomenal! I have loved every minute of it. My favourite part was when we played the game in tennis called ‘Jailbreak’, it was such a fantastic game and the best game I have ever played. I was struggling with my forehand in tennis and after a few weeks I was really good at it. I loved going on Education City and Mathletics because it was real fun! I have learnt new skills in ICT and photography. We designed name badges which were amazing and whenever we came to Ace Base we could wear them. When we were at Ace Base, we went to The Nottingham University Park to take some photos which were entered into the Nottingham in Bloom Competition 2010 and I was one of the winners. We also did a Maths and English quiz which we did twice and I improved quite a lot from the first time. I loved the staff there and they were very kind and supportive.

I have enjoyed coming to Ace Base and wish I could come again, but it is a one in a life time chance.

Pupils are already half way through their study support programme and have enjoyed doing activities including:  Interactive quizzes using the Optivote System, Tennis Coaching,  Education City, team challenges using our facilities, Speed stacking, Café quiz, and video editing. Pupils have also done lots of activities in the ICT Suite including making a name badge, tennis top trumps and a maths challenge.

Budding Reporters

In partnership with the Nottingham University Widening Participating team, pupils from Hempshill Hall Primary School  are  working with Tom Walsh to plan, produce and review a video news report. The project is based around the topic of bullying.

Pupils will be researching the topic then writing scripts, filming and editing their report then sharing them with the rest of the group. Pupils will take on various roles including, script writers, reporters, camera operators, producers and editors.
